City & Country Group Wins Top Industry Awards Restoration and conversion specialist City & Country Group’s today won two awards at the 2007 HotProperty Awards – one of the most coveted annual award events in the property industry.
The Galleries, in Brentwood, Essex, was awarded a Platinum Award for ‘Green Apartment’ and The Manor, in Herringswell, Suffolk, was awarded a Gold Award for ‘Green House’, both in the ‘Green Home’ category. The category recognises houses that have shown a high standard of innovation and common sense in conservation.

The Galleries is City & Country Group’s stunning conversion and renovation of the Grade II listed buildings of the former Warley Hospital. Each home at The Galleries is completely unique and has been designed to incorporate as many of the building’s original features as possible including floors, doors, ornate cornices, stone arches and, in one apartment, the original Victorian clock workings and pendulum.
On the Galleries, the judging panel commented: “The very fact of this development’s regeneration credentials puts it in the green category, but there are many other aspects of The Galleries that speak of a dedication to the environment: use of reclaimed materials throughout; re-use of demolition materials and top soil; the removal of unfortunate late-20th-century additions to the original listed buildings and the increase in the percentage of garden area on the site. Done painstakingly and with love – a real accomplishment.”
The Manor is an impressive Grade II listed manor house set within 8.4 acres of glorious grounds near Newmarket on the fringes of the Suffolk village of Herringswell. City & Country Group is converting the original manor house and its estate outbuildings to create a total of 52 stylish apartments and cottages.
On the Manor, the judging panel commented: “ This refiguring of a former Japanese school and associated outbuildings ticks all the green boxes, and this attention to the reuse/recycle code has paid off not only in strict environmental terms but also in terms of a beautiful result. The rooms are breathtaking, with great care given to the restoration of floor coverings, wood panelling, windows, cornices and plasterwork. The wide variety of properties are absolutely stunning, entirely worthy of the gorgeous green local environment in which they are being so carefully placed – and which, characteristically of City and Country, is itself being enhanced.”
